The New Country Squires

Real estate agents throughout the Hudson Valley and in other second-home markets ... say that sales have picked up recently, as New York City renters came shopping for homes. Many of these renters are convinced that now is the time to buy, because prices and interest rates are down. But since New York City real estate is still out of reach for them, they are heading north, south and east.

MICHAEL

We really wish that there was more media coverage of Michael Jackson's death.
We're having trouble getting any sort of information that's out there. Anyone know if there's been an autopsy? Wills? His kids? Are the 50 concerts in London cancelled??? How does the family feel? Does Joe Jackson have a new record company? What do Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have to say about it? Diana Ross? When will we get to see Matt Lauer's EXCLUSIVE tour of Neverland Ranch on Today? Will the memorial really be at Staples? HELP! We're dying (bad choice of words?) to know!

Who's Your Daddy?

Just Sayin'

In comments today, "Anonymous" posted the following...

According to this morning's Register-Star, Ruth Reichl "expressed how happy she was to be living in 'the breadbasket of New York,' and that she fully supports local and individual farmers. “It’s been amazing to watch the growth of the farms here,” she said. “I just wish we could get more restaurants who do new and interesting things with the food. Every chef in America should want to be here just for the amazing food.”

Could Ms. Reichl be enticed into spearheading a world-class cooking school here, perhaps at this very hotel? Create a first class restaurant on the ground floor, put test kitchens and classrooms on the second floor, and locate dorm rooms for aspiring chefs and hotel rooms for blissfully sated diners on the upper floors. Wouldn't that be amazing? It could become an "anchor" of Hudson's economic revitalization, and naturally link to and strengthen the existing gallery & antiques scene, cultural offerings at HOH, TSL & Stageworks, as well as become another destination for a city that's already noted for fine dining, etc., etc.

Just sayin'!

Art Baer's Idea Of A Homeless Shelter

Tonight, Thursday, June 18th at 6:30 pm at Stageworks/Hudson, 41 Cross Street, citizens are invited to attend and participate in the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce's forum to discuss the appallingly shortsighted proposal to convert Hudson's St. Charles Hotel into a homeless shelter.

The Hudson City Democratic Committee has initiated an online No St.Charles Homeless Shelter petition.
