Picnic


Tomorrow, Sunday, August 2nd, is the 57th Annual Columbia County Democratic Committee Picnic at the Federation of Polish Sportsmen in Hudson.

Attended the bbq yesterday.
"What can I get you?"
"Hamburger please - prosze hamburgera."
"What did you say?"
"That's I'd like a hamburger, in Polish."
His scarlet polo shirt is emblazoned with machine-embroidered cursive, League of Polish Sportsmen.
He clarifies. "I'm not a Po-lack."
(Behind him is a painted sign, about a woman's place being pregnant in winter, barefoot in summer. I wonder why I'm here.)
"Okay."
"Did you expect Polish guys?"
"Yes, I did - Polish sportsmen, in fact."
"Only two Polacks in the whole club."
He hands me the thin patty on the raw bun.
"Thanks."
I don't bother with Dziekuje.
